Kemi West is an artisan with a passion for decorative arts and traditional handmade crafts. She creates contemporary designs using traditional techniques that make it relevant to everyday life. Her creations are functional, imperfect, yet beautiful and is inspired by life.
She started her creative journey by attending evening classes and taking short courses in colleges across London. She attended places like the London College of Fashion, Mary Ward Centre, City Lit, Morley College and Shepherd's Bookbinders to name a few. At College, she obtained her Foundation in Art and Design and learnt about T-shirt printing techniques, Bookbinding and printed and dyed textiles.
She created her printed and dyed textile range for those wishing to express their individuality through wearable art that tells a story. This range is unique as each apparel is intricately dyed by hand. Her apparels are dyed using economically friendly Indigo and Fibre Reactive dyes to create luxuriously bright colours.
She also uses silkscreens, fabric stamps, stencils, found objects and paint directly onto fabrics using fabric paints or transfer dyes that don't fade and last throughout the life-cycle of the fabric. Only limited editions of these products are created.
Bespoke orders will normally take 2weeks to despatch, as she takes great care in creating her products, which requires a great deal of patience. However, she enjoys the process of making each product, which are 100% unique and made just for you!
She looks forward to creating a wider range of products with her unique handmade designs!
Thank you for visiting her website and hope you come back soon!
